Eagles swept as Pride stays unbeaten
The Pride scored two first-period goals Saturday to jump out to an early lead, and Brandon Carney added a goal early in the third to give the Pride a commanding lead.
Carney is now second in the league in scoring with two goals and 13 points.
The league’s leading goal scorer, Levi Erkkila, scored back-to-back goals late in the second period for the Eagles to cut the lead to one, and Ryan Faria evened it up to start the third period.
That’s as close as the Eagles’ could bring it though as the Pride’s Jacob Mcdowell attacked with two goals, his third multi-point game of the season, to put the Pride ahead for good.
Josh Hendrickson stopped 48 for the Eagles in the loss and Nathan Phillips stopped 19 to earn his league-leading fourth win of the year.
Mcdowell then kept his four-game point streak intact by scoring the first goal of Sunday’s game.
After Jordan Peters tied it up for the Eagles, the Pride exploded with three goals in four minutes. Kyle Johnston, Chad Mcdonald and Matthews all scored during the rush.
Alex Roy and Erkkila scored in a comeback attempt, but Cody Eggenberger and Brandon Flood pounced on the comeback attempts.
Sean Mcclure made 18 saves in the game to earn his third win of the year while Norman Purmal stopped 50 of the 56 shots faced for the Eagles.
Both teams are off from NLHL games next week, while the Thunder Bay Kings (5-4-1) will host the Soo Indians (1-4-3) starting Saturday night.
