Pride on five-game tear after Marquette sweep

The Pride won 7-2 Saturday night before finishing the weekend with a 4-1 victory Sunday morning.

On Saturday night the visitors got off to a quick start with two goals in the first five minutes as Jacob Mcdowell and Chad Mcdonald scored before December’s NLHL player of the month Dallas Mclaughlin cut the lead in half 9:28 into the first period.

Mclaughlin scored his second of the game early in the second period to tie the game for Marquette before the NLHL’s leading team exploded for five unanswered goals.

Kyle Johnston and Brandon Carney scored in the second period and Chris Thomas, John Rathjen and Carney scored third-period goals.

The Electricians outshot the Pride 37-32 in the contest with Daniel Liesman stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced to earn the win and Sean Mcclure stopping all 15 shots he faced. Jonathan Hill made 25 saves for Marquette.

In the series finale the two teams played a scoreless first period before an offensive explosion in the second period.

Mcdowell scored a power play goal to open the scoring 1:25 in, but Clinton Bergmann tied the scoring 1:18 later.

Mcdonald scored the eventual game-winning goal 11:07 in and Mcdowell added his second of the period 43 seconds later.

Mcdowell completed his first hat trick of the season in the third period, giving him four goals on the weekend and a NLHL-leading 14 on the season. He has put points on the board in 13 of the Pride’s 14 games including 11 straight.
