NAHL-bound Spoonemore earns January player of the month
“Colby is a great impact player, he has unbelievable speed and skill with the puck,” Soo coach Jerry Harwood said of his team’s leading scorer. “Colby is a good all-around player, both in the defensive end and offensive.”
Spoonemore recently signed a tender to play with the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL, where the 5-foot-7 forward will look to continue his development.
“Colby’s greatest assets are his acceleration and ability to find open ice and maneuver with the puck in tight places,” Harwood said. “He also plays the game with grit and goes to all the tough places on the rink and won’t back down from anyone.”
Spoonemore’s efforts earned him 26 penalty minutes in January, and 45 on the season.
More impressive is his scoring touch, which earned him a sixth-place finish in the league leaders. He finished the season with 16 goals (second highest in the league) and 26 points, including a league-leading three shorthanded goals.
“He quarterbacks our power play and kills penalties as well, his work ethic on the ice is exceptional,” Harwood said. “I believe Colby’s future is very bright in hockey and he will be an impact player at the next level.”
