Weberg's strong finish earns him February Player of the Month
The 5-foot-7 native of Oslo, Norway scored 16 goals and 26 points this season, good for fourth best in the league, while missing 25 percent of his team’s games.
His 1.07 goals per game mark was the best in the league as he was the only player to finish the season with more goals than games.
“Nicho is a very dynamic player, with great speed, nice hands and good vision,” Shattuck coach Murray Eaves said. “He makes players around him better. “
Weberg finished the season on a four-game point streak, while adding goals in eight of his last nine games. His efforts were one of the primary reasons the Sabres were able to climb the standings.
“His biggest attribute is his competitive attitude; he hates to lose, he practices and plays as if it will be his last practice or game,” Eaves said. “It doesn’t surprise me to see his point-to-game totals, imagine if he had played all 20 games.”
Weberg’s 1.73 points per game was the highest in the league.
“Our run to end the season has been great, it’s been a team effort,” Eaves said. “To accomplish such a streak your best players have to be your best players and Nicho has not disappointed.
“Can you say MVP?”
While Weberg’s play has been impressive, his 4.01 Grade Point Average shows he’s a well-rounded individual. Weberg has also showed leadership, earning the assistant captain ranking for the Norwegian U18 National Team.
